Senator Harper Angel to set the pace at women's leadership conference
May 3, 2005, FRANKFORT -- Senator Denise Harper Angel, D-Louisville, has been chosen to serve as a Pacesetter at the annual Southern Women in Public Service Conference sponsored by the Stennis Center for Public Service. The conference is considered to be the most significant bipartisan gathering of women political leaders throughout the south. This year there will be 25 Pacesetters from 12 states. Pacesetters are proven leaders who serve as examples to others who aspire to public service careers.
"This is an exciting opportunity to meet my counterparts in other states and to learn from them and to encourage women who may be interested in a career in public service," Harper Angel said. "It will also give me an opportunity to do a little bragging about Kentucky's many accomplishments."
The purpose of the conference, where the Pacesetters are honored, is to provide leadership development opportunities to women political leaders and to encourage more women to seek leadership positions in public service. The conference will be held from May 15-17 in San Antonio.
The Stennis Center for Public Service is a federal, legislative branch agency created by Congress in 1988 to promote and strengthen public service leadership in America. Headquartered in Starkville, Mississippi, the center is funded through an endowment plus private contributions from foundations and corporations.
